PLACENTIA – Police are asking for the public's help to find the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed an 89-year-old woman as she crossed a church driveway on foot Sunday morning, officials said.
Jessie Pound of Placentia, who was using a cane, was walking across a Bradford Avenue driveway that leads to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Placentia when an older-model white car struck her as it exited the church parking lot, said Placentia police Sgt. Michael Roach.
"We were able to locate one witness who was helpful in identifying what the vehicle looked like, but we have no license plate," Roach said.
Paramedics were called to the scene at about 9:15 a.m. and tried to resuscitate Pound with CPR. She was transported to Placentia-Linda Hospital in Placentia, where she died of her injuries at 9:42 a.m., authorities said.
The collision occurred between two morning masses at the church, police said. But it is unclear whether the driver had been attending mass at St. Joseph, which is at 717 N. Bradford Ave. just north of Ruby Drive.
The witness could not provide the make or model of the vehicle, police said.
The Placentia Police Department's traffic bureau is investigating the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call 714-993-8157.
